OTHER METHODS
OF CONTRIBUTING TO TLG
A variety of available arrangements and techniques can allow donors to
give more at the same or lower cost to them—or to simply add ease and
convenience to the process. In addition, there are several non-financial
ways to contribute that you may not have considered. If you would like
more information about any of the methods described below, click on the
TLG icon and let us know.
Electronic Funds Transfer
Donors in this program contribute to TLG every month. The funds are
transferred directly from their bank accounts to the Institute's. Many
contributors prefer the regularity and convenience of this method, which
also provides TLG with steady, more predictable revenues.
Matching Gifts
Many employers will match their employees' contributions to qualified
non-profit organizations—some even double-match. TLG receives dozens of
matching gifts each year, and donors who initiate them like the fact
that they can divert some of their companies' funds from traditional
charities to the Tree of Life Guardianship. To find out if your employer
matches gifts, and if TLG is an eligible institution, inquire at the
company's personnel office. (contact info goes here) If the answer is
positive, obtain the appropriate form and send it to TLG along with your
contribution. Also, do not hesitate to put the company's matching gifts
coordinator in touch with TLG if there are any questions.
Gifts of Securities
If you are thinking about selling shares of stock or other marketable
securities, you might consider contributing such assets instead of cash
to TLG. As a tax-exempt entity, the Institute can liquidate the stock
without having to pay the capital gains tax you would incur if you sold
the stock yourself. If the stock has appreciated significantly, this can
mean significant tax savings for you—and TLG still gets the funds to
spend on advancing Tree of Life Guardianship.
Non-cash Contributions
Over the years, donors have contributed computer hardware and software,
office equipment and supplies, and other types of business and personal
property. If you have something to offer that TLG can use, it will be
gladly accepted. When you send a written statement of the current market
value, TLG will credit you for that amount in our records and send you a
receipt appropriate for tax purposes.
Gifts of Expertise
Some of TLG's supporters occasionally provide professional advice and
assistance on a "pro bono" basis, typically in technical and
professional fields. If you're receptive to contributing in this manner,
please indicate so on the response card, and an TLG staff member will
most appreciatively contact you.
Gifts of Time
TLG has a hard-working group of volunteers whose work saves the
Institute many hours and dollars—time and money that otherwise would be
spent on over-qualified staff or outside services to accomplish routine,
repetitive tasks.
Typical volunteer activities include assembly of mailings, data entry,
and other clerical tasks. If you live in—or plan to visit—Southern
California, and would like to volunteer, please contact TLG.
